ALL AGLOW: TANNING TIPS FOR WINTER.

Images (left to right): Karoline Wolter by Benny Horne for RUSSH October/November 2010, RUSSH October/November 2011, Catherine McNeil by Benny Horne for Vogue Australia November 2012, Vogue Australia November 2010.

In summer I tan religiously so I don't offend people with my translucentness when hit the beach, but as the cooler months creep up and the black jeans and oversize knits come out of the closet I start to get a bit lax.

This year I'm turning things around. Why? Well, why not....

It makes sense, really. We're naturally more tanned in summer and yet we're way more keen to dive into the fake tan bottle than we are in winter - when the sky is grey, our skin is pale and we're wearing head-to-toe black! A bit of faux glow will go a long way. Trust me!

Here's six tanning products I couldn't live without:

Image from Vogue Australia November 2010.

This oil-based instant body bronzer is the perfect for winter because the Tahini oil moisturises and smoothes the skin. Yes, it's slightly shimmery, but your skin can do with a bit of 'glow' in winter and chances are you won't be in heaps of direct sunlight, therefore you won't look like a disco ball.

Tip: rub it all over your body directly after showing for maximum hydration. Oh, and did I mention it smells absolutely incredible?!

I think of raved on about face tanners before, but seriously... they're the best thing goin' 'round. Applying a small amount of this Clinique one before bed makes you wake up looking like you've been to the Bahamas overnight.

The best bit? It's also soft enough to apply under your make-up before you go to work on those days when you're feeling a little under the weather (yay for puns!).

The crème de la crème of bronzers! Remember, cream is key in winter. Keep it in your handbag and apply a bit to your cheeks when your face needs a bit of colour.

Daria Werbowy by Patrick Demarchelier for Industrie magazine.

My skin tone is more towards the 'yellow' end of the scale, and this is the best tan I have come across so far. To colour is extremely natural and it doesn't come out too dark, so there's no risk of waking up looking like a gingerbread man.

The first time I applied this all over my body I was a bit alarmed - it goes on quite dark and continues to develop over time so I was a bit worried about the final result. Alas, when I jumped in the shower the next morning it revealed a perfect, deep tan sans any orange undertones.

I use this one before a night out, rather than every day.

Tip: these products are both best applied using a mit. I own mits by both of these brands and they both work well, but the St Tropez one seems to apply a thinner layer of product, so I use that when I want a more subtle tan.

I use this moisturiser on my arms and legs to extend the life of my tan. The best part? The colour is nice and subtle so you can put it on in a hurry without looking like you did later!

THE MONOCHROME DIARIES.

Wearing Adidas by Stella McCartney jacket, Eska Alikai leather skirt layered over Jamie Ashkar skirt, Stella McCartney heels and Zara bag.

HI FRIENDS.

It's been a while between posts but I have a totally legitimate excuse (which I won't waste your time by sharing).

My latest post for Vogue Australia is now up on vogue.com.au. This time, I'm revisiting my dear old friend 'monochrome'.

TIE IT UP.

Wearing Michael lo Sordo top, Morrison skirt, Serpent & the Swan shirt (around waist), Jerome Dreyfuss bag and Balenciaga boots.

Two things I can't get enough of at the moment? This A-line leather skirt and plaid shirts!

Plaid anything, really, thanks to Mr Phillip Lim and his spring/summer 2013 collection.

I love the way it makes this black and white ensemble a little more exciting. Yes, the print is great, but it also helps to give more shape to an otherwise oversize outfit. Throw a bit of Jerome Dreyfuss leopard in the mix and or keep it clean with black accessories if the whole print-on-print thing's a bit too craz-ay for you.

Denim or striped shirts are also perfect waist adorners so get experimenting! x

SIMPLY BLACK.

Sometimes, less is more. Actually, I think this is the case nine times out of ten if we're talking in a sartorial sense.

There's nothing I love more than blurring the lines between feminine and masculine style, so I just couldn't resist when I saw this Ba&sh tuxedo dress. When something is this great on its own (hello perfect cut and plunging neckline!) it requires no bells and whistles.

Keep it simple.

LIFE'S BETTER IN LEATHER.

It's true.

I told you recently that I was hunting for a leather sweater and it just so happens that I've managed to find the perfect one. It super soft, fits exactly like I'd hoped and the white and beige colour way is both AM and PM-friendly. The bonus? It couldn't have come at a better time – it's getting so damn cold in Sydney!

Photos by Manon Ouimet.

Pair it with a great skirt (this Bec & Bridge one is a step ahead of the asymmetric variety I'm starting to tire of) or black pants (like these) and strappy heels for a sporty-luxe vibe.

What do you all have planned this week? Hope it's the best one yet! x

I NEVER THOUGHT I'D...

wear a turtleneck, or dedicate a blog post to one for that matter.

Don't get me wrong, I have a weakness for anything with a nineties appeal (Dr. Martens? Baby Gs? Butterfly clips?!) but whether or not you pull it off like Liv Tyler in Empire Records is another matter altogether.

It's funny how things fall off the radar and then reemerge decades later - think about when Almost Famous was released and you started raiding op shops and your mum's wardrobe for vintage crochet and round shades in the hope of looking like Penny Lane (yes, I went there). But maybe that's exactly why we like it... because of that nostalgic feeling. It's what makes it feel... right.

Wearing Neil Barret sweater, Elena Ghesillini bag and Aquazzura heels (all coming soon to my-wardrobe.com) and Morrison skirt

The key to pulling it off is adding a personal twist - something that makes it your own and shows it in a fresh new light.

I like keeping things classic (as you probably gathered here), so pairing this Neil Barret sweater with my Morrison leather skirt seemed like a no-brainer. Throw cobalt snakeskin Aquazzura heels and a larger-than-life leopard print bag in the mix and you're in business.

I know you may be thinking, 'but Chronicles, what does this all meeean?' It means go forth and embrace the turtleneck! There, I said it.

I hope you've got wonderful things planned for the weekend x

THOU SHALT NOT...

overcomplicate things.

Coffee orders (double shot, soy, extra hot, three-quarter full large latte?), weekends or outfits. It's actually proving harder to do than I first thought.

I may suffer a little paralysis by over-analysis, but simply getting dressed each morning means factoring in things like 'I'll be cold on the walk from my house to my car, but then I'll be hot when I get to the office' and, 'can I wear this top again? I think I wore it last Tuesday', and 'this outfit's too simple, MUST. COME. UP. WITH. SOMETHING. BETTER'.

The problem? An unplanned wardrobe; too many things that we don't wear and not enough of the things we do wear. The result? That confusing predicament where you have so much to choose from but nothing to wear!

That's why, from now on, I'm vowing to wear and invest in the things I know and love most  like leather. It's timeless, it can be worn again and again and it usually speaks for itself (minimal crazy creative styling required).

I'm editing my wardrobe down to great basics, beautiful leather pieces to mix-and-match and only a few seasonal impulse buys ('everything in moderation' is what they say, right?).

THE NEW PRINTS.

I've got a new rule when it comes to buying prints...

They must be big!

I want nothing to do with dainty florals or fine feline prints.

'The bigger, the better' is my new print philosophy, and I'm likin' it. My picks are anything of the leopard variety (think Stella McCartney), stripes, checks and plaid (at the risk of sounding dramatic, I literally died and went to heaven when I saw this Céline look).

I've also been loving a bit of green lately so I just couldn't resist this J.W. Anderson sweater.  Paired with my all-time favourite Ksubi jeans and this Elena Ghesellini bag, I think it makes a pretty easy breezy winter weekend outfit.

What have you all been up to this week? I went to a super fun Clinique party last night (but more about that soon!) x

A NIGHT OUT WITH CLINIQUE.

Last week I joined my friends at Clinique to celebrate the launch of the new Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion +

It's pretty exciting news. The old formula was their best-selling product. Ever.

So, why fix something when it's not broken? To make it even better

I loved the old one, so I was a bit skeptical at first. But the new one feels so incredible on my skin and now I'm hooked!

I decided to wear a bit of Sea NY leopard on leopard to the party, which involved endless Veuve Clicquot, my own chauffeured Audi Q7 for the night and catching up with fellow Vogue bloggers Style by Yellow Button and Tash from Theyallhateus

Thanks for an amazing night Clinique! xxx

NEW PROJECT: THE CHRONICLES OF HER X SACHI.

Last week I did a little day trip to Melbourne...

... to style Sachi shoes' new campaign!

Yep, they're back! And the latest spring/summer collection certainly shows a brand new direction for them (think summer-perfect strappy sandals, snakeskin pumps, pointy black stilettos and more).

What I loved most about the collection was the versatility of the designs - each pair could easily take you from the office to after work drinks and back again (which is extremely hard to find!).

These monochrome block heels were definitely one of my favourites! Need. them. in. my. life. Now!

Watch this space for more on our collaboration... coming soon! x
