Splendour in the Grass: day three.

Over and out, Splendour!
Day three is always a struggle.

As you can see, I managed to find possibly the only spot of grass in the entire place, just for you.

By this stage my body was tired, my head was sore... and I was ready to do it all over again.

This day was all about comfort, my friends, and energy drinks. Lots of energy drinks.

Thanks for the memories Splendour. Until next time.

Splendour in the Grass: day two.

Welcome to Splendour in the Mud, Byron Bay.

Over the weekend I made a quick trip to one of my all-time favourite spots, Byron Bay, for the Splendour in the Grass festival.

First things first, the word 'grass' was an empty promise. I think it's safe to say I didn't even come across a single patch the whole time I was there. It was a total mud pool, but no one let that get in the way of a good time. After all, that's what music festivals are all about right? Getting down and dirty.

But deciding what to wear is a whole other struggle. You have to be prepared for any weather situation, and above all else you need to be comfortable. That said, festivals are one of the few occasions where anything goes (I saw a guy wearing the Twister board as a dress, and another in a bikini and sneakers... as you do).

But this time around I wanted to wear colour, and this jumpsuit by River Island had 'Splendour' written all over it. I'm all about this cross-strap, tie-up neckline at the moment. That, combined with the bell sleeves had me at hello.

A bit of festival fringing = mandatory. I think it makes your dance moves look better (or something like that). This box clutch is my new festival friend.

Hope you like! Day three coming soon x

Borrowing from the boys.

And not look totally man-repelling.
I really, really, really like suits.

Actually, most of the time I prefer to dress like a dude - just one with great shoes, cropped hair and Celine cat eye shades

Here, I shared my algorithm for getting 'smart casual' right every time, and today I'm going to share my tips for borrowing from the boys - without losing every single aspect of femininity you have.

It's actually really easy.

For example, if you're going to wear a suit during the day, pair it with flats (always!), but make sure you keep your hair and make-up looking soft and feminine. Then add in another element to balance it out a bit - like cat eye shades.

It's all about getting the balance right.

At night, I'd wear it with heels, my hair slicked-back into a low ponytail with a middle part, fresh-looking skin and a bold lip. Easy!

Experiment with your accessories (shoes, bags and sunglasses), hair and make-up until you feel strong, but still sexy (yes, I actually just said that word).

How to nail smart casual.

A.k.a. the most common (and ambiguous) dress code.

I pretty much sigh every time I see the words 'smart casual' on an invitation because, like, what does that even mean?

It's kind of leaving things open for interpretation right? I know my idea of 'smart casual' is a lot different to my dad's (love you dad).

So I've come up with a bit of a formula to help you nail it every time...

This is how I dress for special lunches (think birthdays), daytime work events or pretty much any occasion on which I have absolutely no clue what everyone else will turn up wearing.

This ratio always maintains the right balance so you're never over or under dressed:

Two parts 'smart' (skirt + heels) : one part 'casual' (boyfriend shirt).

You can mix this up any way you like and it will always work out - think a tailored black suit (two parts smart) and sneakers (one part casual). Done.

Or statement wide leg pants, heels and a basic tee. Easy!

You + me = 1, smart casual = 0.
